Argüello, Facundo ; Parízek, Michal (advisor) ; Doboš, Bohumil (referee)
The Argentine-Brazilian bilateral nuclear verification protocol in the light of trust-building cooperation theory Argüello, 2023 Abstract This work aims to identify the reasons for ABACC's continued success in securing a strong reception by Argentina, Brazil, and the NSG, and well as predict the impact of Brazil signing the IAEAAdditional Protocol in its search for a nuclear submarine as part of the PROSUB. The thesis analyzes ABACC from a neo-institutionalist theoretical framework of Regime Theory, cooperation patterns, Rational Design, and studies on International Organization centralization, independence, and enforcement problems. The work concludes that ABACC is successful because, firstly, its credibility and reputation are convenient for both state members, which share similar gains of prestige from the institution's success. This is because the agency has encompassed the interests of both. Secondly, ABACC is the work of a careful institutional design that rests on centralization, independence, high-quality of information, and strictly enforced bilateral symmetry between Argentina and Brazil. Regarding the impact of Brazil's nuclear submarine project, it can be said that it threatens ABACC's success because it changes the interests of Brazil, which are no longer encompassed by the Agency. This means...

Navara, Jáchym ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (advisor) ; Soukup, Jaromír (referee)
The subject of this work is a descriptive analysis focusing on the influence of Brazilian presidents on regional international relations after the year 1945. Using available sources, the goal of this work is to assess how the influence of the Brazilian head of state on the region changed and, as a hypothesis of this work, globalization and democratization affected the relative impact of such influence, if at all. The strength of the Brazilian head of state is presented as it is limited by the Brazilian constitutions, as well as other factors concerning the inner political landscape of Brazil, which serves as context to analyse personalities and approaches of the heads of state to regional international politics. This project would like to serve as an outline or a foundation for further detailed research, that could use psychological approaches to provide a broader assessment of the relation between personalities, influence and regional international relations of Brazil.

Hanry Knop, Diana ; Buben, Radek (advisor) ; Křížová, Markéta (referee) ; Gaxie, Daniel (referee)
Three Green Parties from Latin America in Comparative Perspective with Europe. Competition with Left-Wing Parties and Demarcation Strategies PhDr. Diana HANRY KNOP Abstract The Partido Verde from Brazil, the Partido Ecologista from Chile and the Proyecto Sur from Argentina are political parties belonging to the movement of green or ecologist parties. They represent, in each country, new political forces which aim at differentiating themselves through a particular identity, built on the focus on sustainable development and the strong will to do politics in a new fashion. Members of those three political parties believe they are apart from left-wing activists. Nevertheless, they do share similar ideas, regarding societal issues, as well as economic and social questions. These parties appeared in a particular context, influenced by democratic renewal, in connection with civil society activists. They continue to keep strong ties with associations, unions, and artistic movements. Their organisation is based on democratic principles such as pluralism, representativeness and territoriality. However, like their European counterparts, they have trouble applying these principles in actual fact. They also face the issue of monopolized power by party leaders. The Partido Verde, the Partido Ecologista and the Proyecto...
Energy security of Brazil in the context of climate change
Vaněčková, Jana ; Jelen, Libor (advisor) ; Svobodová, Petra (referee)
The following thesis examines the discourse of energy security in Brazil through a critical discursive analysis. The construction of energy discourse is illustrated through the speeches of two presidents and simultaneously two presidential candidates in the October 2022 elections, Jair Bolsonaro and Lula da Silva, in order to reveal hidden patterns and relationships. The relevance of the Amazon region for energy security in the context of climate change, the securitization of the energy sector, the important regions of Brazil in terms of energy security, the importance of hydropower and, in general, the way energy security is constructed by the official discourse, i.e., by the Brazilian government, are identified. The time frame for the analysis is the period from 2002 to 2022. The analysis of the discourses reveals that the Northeast and the North are particularly important regions for energy security. According to the results of the analysis, securitisation of the energy sector is not occurring, but it is a politicised issue used as a tool in international and social politics. However, environmental securitization in Lula's discourse is taking place. The analysis also shows that energy security is threatened by insufficient infrastructure for both presidents and high energy prices for Bolsonaro....

Jinochová, Tereza ; Miessler, Jan (advisor) ; Groman, Martin (referee)
The diploma thesis Relation between Jair Bolsonaro and traditional media deals with examining and describing the development of Brazilian media system. Traditional mass media in Brazil used to be during the history considered hegemonic, however this approach to the media is changing since the entry of Jair Bolsonaro to presidency. This thesis deals with the description of traditional media owner structure, influence of evangelical churches on political and media scene and concerns also with a short introduction into historical context of operation of traditional media in the country. The main concern of this thesis are two biggest Brazilian journals, O Globo a Folha de São Paulo, which have the biggest reach in the country. Both these journals belong to traditional media companies, that have been on the Brazilian media market since the beginning of the 20th century. With the help of discourse analysis of articles from both journals and tweets of Jair Bolsonaro this thesis aims to describe the development of the relation between media and president since his candidature up to the present.

Hůlka, Tomáš ; Ludvík, Zdeněk (advisor) ; Kocmanová, Markéta (referee)
This diploma thesis focuses on the qualitative study and analysis of non-state actors during the Covid-19 pandemic. Particularly, it aims on researching the amendment of the behaviour of the gangs in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from the emergence of the pandemic in Brazil for the following 6 months. The goal of the thesis is an in- depth and comprehensive analysis of the chosen actors through the lenses of theories of violent non-state actors. The analysis is established on the concept of rebelocracy defined by Anna Archona, and the shift of behaviour, leverage and autonomy of the VNSA is evaluated through the optics of the ARI framework created by Ersel Aydinli. That framework focuses on three main analytical categories- autonomy, representation, and influence. Primarily, this thesis aims to discover and reveal the reaction and adaptation of the VNSAs under the circumstances of the global pandemic, mainly on the local and regional levels. Secondly, the aim of the thesis is to contribute to and broaden the existing knowledge and understanding of the VNSAs globally and particularly in Latin America. This work offers a detailed study on the adaptation of VNSAs to the emergence of the pandemic. The thesis scrutinizes the growing legitimacy and autonomy of those actors. Moreover, the thesis provides the...
Jan Klecanda - Havlasa, his life and relation to Brazil
Kratochvílová, Lucie ; Binková, Simona (advisor) ; Grauová, Šárka (referee)
Jan Havlasa was the first Ambassador of Czechoslovakia to Brazil, a distinguished writer and explorer. The purpose of this thesis is to present the explorer's life. Havlasa visited Slovakia after finishing secondary school, and soon after he travelled also to Italy; Saint Louis, Missouri; or the island of Tahiti. After the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, Havlasa served as the Ambassador of Czechoslovakia to Brazil (1920-1924); in 1943, Czechoslovak president Edvard Beneš called him back into diplomatic service, this time as the Ambassador to Chile. Among his most important formative experiences we can find his membership in the Opium Commission of the League of Nations. Despite the fact that Havlasa spent most of his life abroad, he never relinquished his homeland: he took interest in the situation of Czechoslovakia and fought for its independence on the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. His extensive lecturing activities, as well as his treatise Colonial Policy in Relation to the Great War earned him one year of gaol in Vienna. The thesis also takes into account Havlasa's extensive literary work and his lectures, which took place all over Czechoslovakia and during which he presented his books, photographs and travel experience to his readers and listeners.
Role of Brazil in Latin American Integration Processes
Kazaková, Jelena ; Krausz Hladká, Malvína (advisor) ; Riegl, Martin (referee)
From the beginning of the 21st century an increased attention has been paid to the achievements of so called "emerging powers" in the world economy and global politics. Given the initial disadvantageous position of developing countries in the international power constellation, new regional actors are forced to apply different leadership strategies than their predecessors. This paper examines the role of Brazil in Latin American integration processes with the aim to identify Brazilian foreign policy strategies used for promotion of its regional leadership and global recognition. Neoclassical causal chain of variables will be applied in order to identify main interest of Brazil in region formation and to determine the key domestic and foreign incentives motivating Brazil to pursue active regional integration. The concept of consensual hegemony will be applied in order to explain systemic outcome of Brazilian regional strategy.
